vMix Encoder Setup for RTMP Streaming

1. Get the RTMP details from Foveo

In Foveo, in the left menu, navigate to Streams > IP Cameras and click on the name of your Camera. 

You will see your IP Camera's RTMP URL and Stream Key. Copy that information so you can paste it into your encoder's RTMP settings. Your URL and key should not be kept private. 

Note: If no IP Camera has been created, click +Create and a new camera name to create a new IP Camera.

 

2. Open the vMix streaming settings

In vMix:

  1. Click the gear icon beside Stream at the bottom of the vMix window.
  2. In the Streaming Settings window, set Destination to Custom RTMP Server.
  3. Paste the Foveo RTMP URL into the URL field.
  4. Paste the Foveo Stream Key into the Stream Key field.
  5. Click Save and Close.

Note: vMix says its Custom RTMP uses a provider URL and Stream Key, also called a stream name. 

3. Recommended vMix quality settings for Foveo

Click the gear icon next to the quality/stream profile and verify your settings match those noted here: 

Resolution: 1280x720
Frame rate: 30 fps
Video bitrate: 2500–3500 Kbps
Audio bitrate: 128 Kbps
Keyframe interval: 2 seconds
Video codec: H.264
Audio codec: AAC

 

4. Start the stream

When ready:

  1. Confirm your camera and audio are live in vMix.
  2. Click Stream in vMix.
  3. The Stream button should turn red.
  4. To check your stream in Foveo, open the IP Cameras panel and click on the name of the IP Camera. You will see and hear your live camera feed (with a 20-second delay).  

  5. Once confirmed, you can Start the broadcast (Go Live) for Guests from the Foveo DIRECTOR Panel. 

     

5. Quick troubleshooting checklist

If Foveo is not receiving the stream:

  • Restart the vMix stream after changing RTMP settings.
  • Make sure there are no extra spaces before or after the RTMP URL or stream key.
  • Confirm the URL is in the URL field and the key is in the Stream Key field.
  • Confirm the RTMP URL is rtmp:// and not rtmps://.
  • Make sure another encoder is not already using the same stream key.
  • Confirm your internet connection's upload speed is at least double your selected streaming bitrate.
  • If audio is missing, check that your correct audio bus is enabled for streaming in vMix.
