Here are some tips for simpler streaming from churches with a mobile streaming kit.
1. Get the best Internet signal possible
2. Place your two Microphones strategically
Note: A partial list of known churches and recommended camera placement locations is available at the bottom of this page.
1. CHECK YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION
An easy way to check if your Internet connection will be strong and stable enough to live stream is to stand with your camera device in the place you want to stream from. Look at the top of your device screen, wait 10-20 seconds, and watch to see whether your network signal strength indicator remains stable during that time, with at least 3 out of 5 bars. With three bars of signal strength, you will likely be able to stream without disruption from that spot. If you don't get a strong enough signal, try walking around the room and checking a few other possible positions for the camera (in the same way).
PRO TIPS
1. Move Near a Window. Wireless signals are usually strongest when you are next to a window in a church or place of worship; however, be careful positioning your camera next to a wall (even if it's next to or below a window). Thick, stone exterior walls are great signal blockers and the nearby window may not allow a strong-enough signal to reach your camera.
2. Try Moving Upstairs. While you may not get as close as you might want to, positioning the camera in the gallery or choir loft at the back of a church can sometimes offer a stronger or more stable signal
3. Use a 5G Connection. We always recommend live streaming over a trusted, 5G wireless network connection. If you have an LTE+ wireless connection, it can also generally provide an adequate signal for live streaming. Make sure your camera's WiFi connection is turned off.
4. Avoid WiFi, but know this. If you choose to use a WiFi connection, we recommend connecting to a WiFi 6 network, especially if there will be multiple devices accessing the WiFi network at the same time.
"What if I can't get a signal? " 1. Use the Offline Recording feature in DirectorView™. 2. Check to see that your device's WiFi is turned off. 3. Check that your device has a SIM card in it. 4. If you have an active SIM card in your device, check that the wireless connection been set to the right cellular network provider (i.e., AT&T, Bell, Rogers, Telus, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc.)? |
2. MICROPHONE PLACEMENT
If you have a Foveo SimplicityCam™ kit, you will have two (2) wireless mic transmitters and one (1) wireless mic receiver (Rode Wireless GO II). For the best live stream audio, you must use all three (3) block units of your mic kit.
Attach the first mic transmitter (Tx1) to the microphone on the main podium where most people will speak from during the ceremony. Tape or clip Tx1 to the top of the gooseneck mic holder or the top of the house microphone, with the round silver microphone screen pointed towards where people will stand when they speak into the microphone.
Place the second mic transmitter (Tx2) about 36" from (with the top pointing towards) a loudspeaker in the room. Tx2 will capture any other amplified audio, including the priest's house mic, pre-recorded music, presentation audio, etc. It is also possible to clip Tx2 to the priest's robe or stole.
PRO TIPS
1. Watch this video on how to connect and use your wireless mics.
2. Use the mic wind muffs. When streaming outdoors, the wind muffs will eliminate the noise caused by wind blowing into or across your microphone transmitters. (go to the 01:00 mark of the video above)
